Mr. Fritz Baffour

Fritz Baffour is a Ghanaian journalist, politician, and communications consultant. He was the Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South constituency in the Parliament of Ghana and the Minister for Information during the Administration of the late President Evans Atta Mills in 2012. In parliament, Hon. Baffour served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior and a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender and Social Protection.

Fritz was born on 11 March 1952 in Korle Gonno in Accra, the capital of Ghana. He went to Prempeh College and the Technology Secondary School, both in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana His sixth-form education was at the City of Bath College in Somerset in the United Kingdom. Fritz Baffour obtained a master’s degree in Communication Studies from the Leicester University in the UK.

Fritz worked as a journalist a television producer and personality in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, the UK, and the US. He was involved with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from its inception in 1991. He became a member of parliament in January 2009 after winning the Ablekuma South seat in the Ghanaian parliamentary election in 2008. He was appointed Minister for Information by President John Atta Mills in 2012. Hon Baffour was a media consultant to former President Flt. Lt. Jerry Rawlings during his tenure as President of Ghana from 1992 to 2000 and the National Democratic Congress party from 1991 to date.

Honorable Fritz has served on many boards over the years, including as Chairman of the National Museums and Monument Board; Member of Board of Directors of the National Theatre of Ghana; Board Member, Ghana Nuclear Research Institute; Board Member, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. He has also received several awards and citations over the years including Tourism Marketing Campaign Award for the year 1997 from the Ghana Tourist Board.

In 2009, he was privileged to serve as the tour guide for President Barrack Obama of the United States and the 1stLady Michelle Obama when they visited Ghana and toured some of the historical sites in Cape Coast and Accra.
