Jeffrey Alan Peck

MEMBER

Jeffrey Alan Peck is the great-grandson of Dr. W. E. B. Du Bois. Jeffrey continues Dr. Du Bois’ legacy by engaging in socio-political discourse, working closely with non-profit organizations that are involved in racial justice, equity, and empowerment, being an active member of Bishop James Dixon’s “Community of Faith” Church, and annually commemorating Dr. Du Bois’ memory in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in February of each year. Jeffrey is a Houston native, who aspires to increase awareness and affinity for Dr. Du Bois throughout the South and within ignored black communities.

Before devoting his time to fully focusing on Dr. Du Bois’ legacy, Jeffrey was born in Denver, Colorado on March 24, 1966, and moved to Houston, Texas in 1969 (where he has resided since). After graduating from Forest Brook High School in 1984, he attended the University of Houston Downtown in 1985, Texas Southern University from 1985-1987, Houston Fire School in 1990, EMT Houston Community College from 1990-1991, and Baytown Lee College. While pursuing his education, he held employment with the US Post Office from 86-87, Brink’s from 87-92, Baytown Fire Department from 92-96, Lyondell Petrochemical from 96-99, and Lubrizol Corp from 1999 to the present as a Lead an Operator.

From a young age, he had a great passion for motorcycle riding and speed, – a passion he inherited from his great-grandfather! As a result, Jeffrey became a Professional motorcycle drag racer from 1998 to 2016 — concurrently with being a spokesperson for Kawasaki during those years and presently. In 2014, his focus shifted toward embracing his family’s rich historical legacy. This has culminated in him becoming a public representative of the DuBois family (along with his brother, Arthur McFarlane II).

Jeffrey has acted in Chad Lawson Cooper’s play, “Justice on Trial” as none other than Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois himself. Jeffrey has also worked with Gwendolyn VanSant and Randy Weinstein, chair and vice chair of the WEB DuBois Legacy Committee, to actualize the decision to name the “W.E.B. Du Bois Regional Middle School” in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.

In June 2023, Jeff Peck was presented the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award from Joe Biden at one of the Justice on Trial plays in Dallas, TX. He continues to travel throughout the country with the Broadway play Justice on Trial in which he plays none other than his great-grandfather Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois. Currently, Jeffrey devotes his time to speaking at universities, and children’s schools across the U.S. to educate about DuBois’ legacy.
