Helping Africa Foundation and Partners Dedicate Yamoransa Model Lab 13 in Damongo, President Mahama Supports Expansion

Damongo, Ghana — Saturday, May 23, 2026

The Helping Africa Foundation (HAF), together with its partners TECHAiDE and Implementers, officially dedicated Yamoransa Model Lab 13 in Damongo, Savannah Region, on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The ceremony brought together government officials, chiefs, community leaders, students, and development partners to mark the opening of the digital learning facility.

Among the dignitaries present were H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana; Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Minister for Education; Hon. George Opare Addo, Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment; Hon. Adam Mutawakilu, Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited and former Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency; alongside officials of the Helping Africa Foundation and TECHAiDE.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director of the Helping Africa Foundation and the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation, spoke about the vision behind the Yamoransa Model Lab initiative and the Foundation’s commitment to expanding access to education through technology.

Mr. Aryiku explained that the first Yamoransa Model Lab was established in Yamoransa in 2016 and that the initiative has since grown through partnership and local support.

“These labs are powered by solar energy and designed to ensure learning continues regardless of electricity challenges,” Mr. Aryiku said.

President Mahama praised the Helping Africa Foundation and its partners for their contribution to education and community development.

He reflected on his longstanding relationship with Helping Africa Foundation Chairman Mr. Daniel Rose and recalled earlier collaborations that supported deprived rural hospitals with medical equipment and healthcare assistance.

The President also shared how the Damongo project began.

According to President Mahama, the Foundation introduced him to the Yamoransa Model Lab concept after completing similar projects elsewhere and later presented the design for the Damongo facility.

“This is my first time seeing the completed facility myself,” he said as he expressed satisfaction with the outcome.

President Mahama noted that the initiative fits well within Ghana’s growing focus on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and emphasized the importance of giving young people access to digital learning opportunities.

Following the speeches, the President officially commissioned the facility through a ribbon-cutting and plaque unveiling ceremony.

He later toured the centre and interacted with students and project leaders.

During the tour, TECHAiDE CEO and Project Director, Kafui Prebbie, demonstrated the technology available within the facility, including the Asanka learning platform and other educational tools.

President Mahama visited the EduLabs, Robotics Lab, and conference facilities, where he observed students at work and engaged them in conversation.

He also experienced the virtual reality technology available in the Robotics Lab and encouraged students to make good use of the opportunities available to them.

A major outcome of the visit came when Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, requested that the Helping Africa Foundation and its partners submit a proposal, together with cost estimates, for the development of 20 additional Yamoransa Model Labs.

The request, made in the presence of President Mahama, signals growing government interest in expanding the model to more communities across the country.

If realized, the proposed expansion could bring digital learning opportunities to thousands more students and further strengthen technology and STEM education in Ghana.

The dedication of Yamoransa Model Lab 13, therefore, marked not only the commissioning of a new learning facility in Damongo but also a promising step toward widening access to digital education and innovation across Ghana.
