Upon its completion and dedication in 2023, the new W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Complex will have the most active programing in the history of the Centre since its initial debut in 1985.
60th Anniversary of the passing of Dr. W. E. B. Du Bois
The Government of Ghana and the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation (US-Ghana), signed an agreement on 20th September 2021 to authorize the Foundation to redevelop the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre in Accra, which holds the mortal remains of Dr. Du Bois and his widow Shirley Graham Du Bois into an even more vital museum complex to serve Ghana, the Black diaspora, and the world.
The signing took place in New York City, USA, at the Pierre Taj Hotel on the margins of the United Nations Assemblies.

W.E.B. Du Bois Awards Lectures/Gala
Each year on the August 26th anniversary of his passing, the Centre will organize and host a 2day lecture series on the life and works of Dr. Du Bois:
Prominent speakers/scholars and guests will be invited from abroad to join their Ghanaian counterparts in the Events:
The Event will be widely publicized globally to attract tourists into Ghana and to the Centre:
It will culminate in an award dinner dance where gold-plated medals will be awarded to 3 individuals deemed to lived and promote the ideals of the great W.E.B. Du Bois.
Shirley Graham Du Bois Awards Lectures/Gala
Each year on the March 27th anniversary of the passing of Shirley Graham Du Bois, the Centre will organize and host a lecture series on her life and works:
Prominent speakers/scholars and guests will be invited from abroad to join their Ghanaian counterparts in the Events:
In particular, the Centre will engage and partner with Oberlin College and the University of Massachusetts, the two institutions most identified with Shirley Graham’s academic career, in planning the Lecture Event
Black History Month (February)
The Centre will engage and partner with the African American Communities in Ghana and the US in planning and celebrating the Black History Month with activities and Events.
African Union Day (May)
The African Union Day celebration will be another important event in the life of the Centre seeing that Dr. Du Bois was front and center in the early emancipation movement in the UK with the 5th Pan African Congress in Manchester.
Dr. Du Bois continued his work of promoting the Pan-African agenda when he was invited by Dr Kwame Nkrumah and lived in Ghana and continued to advise Dr. Nkrumah on his Pan-African efforts
We will honor 21st Century Pan-African Leaders and Movements including great sports, cultural and political figures.
School Tours
As soon as the new Centre is open and operational, meetings will be held with the Ghana Education Services to plan year-round free tours of the complex for Junior and Senior High School seniors before they graduate. As future leaders, this will educate them on the Du Bois legacy, the Pan-African concept, and the African American experience.
Entertainment Events
The Conference Hall, Outdoor Theater and the well-manicured grounds of the complex will all be used to promote, and host shows, conferences, concerts, film showing and other social events.
Daily Tours of Museum, and Library
The Centre will promote daily tours of the Du Bois Museum and all the important facilities on the campus. It will also encourage the use of the library for research and leisure reading.
