W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation Signs Operational Mandate Agreement with Government of Ghana

The W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation has formally signed an Operational Mandate Agreement with the Government of Ghana, granting the Foundation authority to manage and oversee the operations of the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts and was executed on behalf of the Government of Ghana by Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
Representing the Foundation were Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director; Dr. Kofi Boateng, Chief Operating and Financial Officer; and Hon. Fritz Baffour, Board Member. Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister, together with other representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, was present at the ceremony.
In her remarks, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie acknowledged the national importance of the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre and reaffirmed the State’s interest in safeguarding its heritage, assets, and legacy. She emphasized that the Centre remains a national heritage institution and expressed support for a collaborative approach that advances Ghana’s cultural, historical, and tourism objectives.
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation, Mr. Japhet Aryiku, Executive Director, expressed appreciation to the Government for the confidence placed in the Foundation through the mandate. He reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to responsible stewardship, transparency, and the long-term preservation of the legacy of Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois, noting the Centre’s unique global significance as the final resting place of Dr. Du Bois and a major site of Pan-African memory.
He further underscored the Foundation’s vision to develop the Centre into a world-class cultural, research, and heritage institution that will benefit Ghana while serving scholars, visitors, and the global African diaspora.
The signing of the Operational Mandate Agreement marks a significant institutional milestone and provides a clear framework for collaboration between the Government of Ghana and the Foundation. With this mandate in place, the Foundation will proceed with structured planning and engagement in line with national priorities and international best practices.
