OVERVIEW
Mission
The mission of the W. E. B. Du Bois Museum Foundation is to redevelop and reimagine the Du Bois Centre in Accra, Ghana, transforming it into a world-class museum and library complex befitting the stature and global impact of Dr. W. E. B. Du Bois.
The project will elevate his final resting place into an important international institution and heritage site, serving as a hub for scholarship, history, and cultural exchange around the life and work of Dr. Du Bois. The Museum Complex will stand on par with institutions dedicated to great American thinkers and leaders such as Frederick Douglass, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The mission also includes honoring the legacy of Shirley Graham Du Bois, whose remains rest at the Du Bois Centre in Accra, and whose work as a writer, activist, and cultural leader remains central to the story and spirit of the Centre.
Vision
The vision of the W. E. B. Du Bois Museum Foundation is to honor the life, ideas, and purpose of Dr. W. E. B. Du Bois by preserving, promoting, and protecting his enduring legacy, alongside that of Shirley Graham Du Bois.
Looking forward, the Foundation envisions the Du Bois Museum and Library as a global home for the African diaspora. With over 150 million Afro-descendants in South America alone, the Centre will, over time, create space for these nations and their Afro-descendant communities to tell their stories, preserve their histories, and connect them to Africa.
